Aim

CHIPS is the national surveillance system for paediatric HIV in the UK and Ireland, and its aim is to monitor the clinical care of children with HIV, provide quality of care indicators, and support NHS commissioning of services.

Objectives

  • To describe the characteristics and outcomes of children with HIV receiving paediatric care in the UK and Ireland
  • To directly support NHS commissioning of paediatric HIV services
  • To participate in European and global meta-analyses of the health of children with HIV and the safety of antiretrovirals
  • To assess the long term clinical outcomes of perinatal HIV and antiretroviral therapy through the life course including through adult care.

CHIPS has ethics approval from the London Multi-centre Research Ethics Committee.
