What Happens When

CHIPS follows standard financial year reporting (April - March). New hospitals are welcome to join CHIPS at any time. Below are rough timetables on when things happen during the CHIPS year:

February: This is the deadline for receipt of outstanding CHIPS forms for the previous calendar year, to ensure that complete follow up data on all children seen in the previous year are included in the data feedback process to clinics in May/ June.

March: Forms are sent out for children whose yearly CHIPS follow-up falls between January and March; Steering Committee meeting; a new data download is generated at the end of the month; some of the data are used by at the Health Protection Agency for national surveillance.

May/ June: The new CHIPS annual report is sent to commissioners and becomes available via the CHIPS website. The standard set of data feedback slides/ Word documents for clinic, CHINN network and national level data are distributed to individual hospitals. All reports and slides are based on CHIPS forms received to the end of March for children in active follow-up in CHIPS. However data do not represent all children seen to the end of March as not all forms for the previous calendar year or last financial quarter (January - March) will have been received by the February deadline.

June: Forms are sent out for children whose yearly CHIPS follow-up falls between April and June. Some of the data are used for national surveillance.

September: Forms are sent out for children whose yearly CHIPS follow-up falls between July and September; Steering Committee meeting; a new data download is generated at the end of this month. Some of the data are used for national surveillance.

December: Forms are sent out for children whose yearly CHIPS follow-up falls between October and December. Some of the data are used for national surveillance.
